2G Technology
2G technology is second communication
technology generation that already use digital technology. This generation use
Time Division Multiple access (TDMA) and Code Division Multiple Access (CD MA) in
its communication technology. 2G technology used for voice communication, SMS (Short
Message Service), voice mail, call waiting and data transfer with maximum 9600
bps speed.
Advantages from 2G than 1G are better services, bigger capacity, digital based, and use more efficient power so handset can use longer time and battery size can be smaller. Disadvantages from 2G are low transfer rate, not efficient for low traffic, limited network range, and very depend on BTS (cell tower).
The improvement of 2G is 2.5G, TDMA
in this technology implemented in GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) and
WiDEN (Wideband Integrated dispatch). CDMA implemented in CDMA2000-1x Release
0/RTT (1 times Radio Transmission Technology) or IS-2000 (ITU based), or
CDMA2000 (3GPP2 based). 2.5 G provider provide some advantages 3G (like
packed-switched) and can use part of 2G infrastructure in GSM and CDMA network.
